The Knight Barricade
The knight barricade restricts the movement of the opponent’s king. In this position, black’s queen and knight dislodged white’s king and threatens 1.... Qg2 2. Kf4 Qf3 mate (2.Kh4 Nf3 fetching white’s queen). On the other hand, white’s bishop is partially blocked by his queen and relies on the 2 knight barricade and possible Qh6-g7. White should deliver a force move otherwise his king gets mated.
Urusov - Kalinsky (1880)
White to play and win.
Solution: 1. Qg5+!! gxQ 2. Nh6+ Kh8 3. Bb2.. Unbelievable! no piece can effectively block the bishop assault in the diagonal toward his king.
