Removing the Barrier
The objective of black is to exchange pieces leaving him two pawns which are sufficient to win the game. Unexpectedly, the one playing white-the rising Russian legend Alexander Alekhine has something in store for his opponent.
Alekhine- Freeman (USA, 1924)
Solution: 1. Nh6+!! QxN. Now, the white queen has a freehand of the d8-h4 diagonal 2. RxN+ KxR 3. Qd8+.. mate. Not unusual, combinations of this calibre is a typical of Alekhine’s play.
